Kalyana
Objective: For this group project we were given a rectangular two story building on a corner lot located in downtown San Diego. We were asked to design an apartment complex with 12 units, a tenant only amenity, as well as one community accessible feature. The building had to comply with CBC and ADA codes and half of the units were required to be ADA accessible. We were also required to assemble all relevant sustainability and LEED documents. Concept: My group and I decided to target young professionals at the start of their careers. Because of our target demographic, we decided to focus on balance, ultimately balancing the mind, body and soul in relation to chakras. We decided to include a co-working space and gym as tenant amenities to represent the balance of mind and body, and included a central garden courtyard to represent balancing the soul. Individual Responsibilities: Logo design (living, cafe, gwp), space-planning over-all building (all but interiors of residential units), final floor plan compliance check with ADA and CBC codes, two courtyard renderings and one upper landing rendering (modeled and rendered in SketchUp with Podium), final InDesign presentation template and slides.
