Lazy Rain
I designed this house for the Sherwin Williams STIR student design challenge, the objective was to design a space that was inspired and driven by color. I was inspired by the Pacific Northwest and decided to design my ideal rainy day home.
As someone who grew up in San Diego, rain is a rare and exciting occurrence. The climate here is typically dry and as a result, vegetation and moisture are often left to be desired.
Recently, my friend and I drove to Vancouver and we saw breathtaking views that relied on the frequent precipitation we didn't receive at home. I was enamored by the lush coastal forests and deep teal of the ocean against the soft grey of the sky during a storm. To me, these colors evoke a feeling of serene enchantment.
Rain is special and I feel fortunate that I get to cherish it; my design embodies just that. With it’s high ceilings, clerestory windows, and cozy reading loft, this Vancouver home was designed to appreciate the splendor of rain. As an ode to the beauty of the Pacific coast, plentiful natural light allows for both live foliage and a dramatic accent wall. The soft patter of rain, a good book, and a beautiful home create the best recipe for a cozy day inside.
